Friends & Family of David Taxin - Walk for ALS
We are participating in ALS United Greater New York’s Walk ALS to raise funds to support people in our local community with ALS and to spread awareness.
In March, 2021, my father received a diagnosis of ALS. There is no known cause (10% is hereditary, but 90% is environmental) and NO CURE!
This neuromuscular disease slowly robbed my dad of his ability to speak, walk, swallow and to breathe. While all this was happening to him, he was totally aware as his intelligent mind remained working as it always had done. Just imagine how frightening it is to have thoughts and not be able to adequately express them.
ALS affects the entire family in dramatic ways: making sure David's continuing changing needs are met, securing caregivers, medications and equipment that will make daily living bearable -to say nothing of having to experience and watch a loved one slowly succumb to this dreaded disease. In addition, the friends/family want to help make the remaining days as productive and enjoyable as possible. It costs an average of $250,000.00 per year to provide the needed care.
My dad was courageous and determined to enjoy whatever time he had left on this earth with his friends and cherished family and an example to us all! He lost his battle June 19, 2023 - just 2 years and 3 months after his diagnosis.
In his memory help us move to secure a cure for ALS by donating today. Together we CAN make a difference in the lives of those affected by ALS now and secure money for research to perhaps secure a cure for those who will be diagnosed in the future.
