Me again! Walking for the cause!
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I'm participating in ALS United Greater New York’s Walk ALS to raise funds that will support individuals and families affected by ALS. Supporting the cause is a personal and important matter to me, seeing as my grandmother passed away from ALS in October 2011. At the time, we had never truly known much about it, even though famous figures like Lou Gehrig and Stephen Hawkins were known to have it. Doctors told us that there was no cure or real treatment, and she passed away shortly after her diagnosis.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone regardless of age, gender, nationality, or ethnicity, although it is primarily an adult-onset disease. Currently there is no known cause or cure.
Being a part of ALS United Greater New York’s WALK ALS is the number one way to unite and fundraise for those living with ALS.
When my grandmother passed, it soon became a responsibility for my family and I to find ways in which to raise awareness regarding the disease, so when we found the ALS Association's NY Walk, it became a yearly activity that we could never skip.
Please consider supporting my efforts by donating through my fundraising page.
Your donation today will help fund resources and services to the local ALS community, help find new ALS treatments, and move us closer to a world without the disease.
Please feel free to send this page to any friend or family member who might be interested in donating!
Thank you!
(If you're someone I've sent this link to through my fandom spaces, PLEASE don't be shy to donate in the name of your favorite fictional character... it's like my favorite part of sharing my donation page!! It doesn't matter if it's 5 dollars, I love seeing random little guys on that honor roll.)
