Aunt Sandy was the sweetest, kindest soul you could ever meet. She carried warmth in her smile, grace in her words, and generosity in every quiet act of love. To know her was to be seen, to be cherished, and to feel like family, no matter who you were.

ALS took so much from her, but it never touched her spirit. Even in the hardest moments, she taught us what it means to be strong, to be gentle, and to love without condition. I am walking for her today—to honor her memory, to carry her light forward, and to help bring us closer to a cure so others don't have to face what she did.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone regardless of age, gender, nationality, or ethnicity, although it is primarily an adult-onset disease. Currently there is no known cause or cure.
