I'm participating in Walk ALS Long Island on Sept. 20 in support of ALS United Greater New York to raise funds that will support individuals and families affected by ALS. 

My father, Dave Baum, was diagnosed with this debilitating disease over a year ago. We have set out to raise (at least) $4,000 so that we can show my dad how many people are in his corner. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will mean so much to my dad and our whole family. 

?What is ALS?

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone regardless of age, gender, nationality, or ethnicity, although it is primarily an adult-onset disease. Currently there is no known cause or cure.
