Honoring Patti: Running to Fight ALS in the NYC Marathon
This November, I have the privilege of running the NYC Marathon with Team ALS to support those affected by ALS, raise awareness for the cause, and fight for a cure. Most importantly, I am running in honor of our beloved Patti Duff Long, who we tragically lost to this cruel disease in April of 2024.
Patti was truly one of a kind. She had a rare ability to make everyone feel like they were her closest friend. Patti didn’t believe in strangers—just in friends she hadn't yet met. She radiated warmth, kindness, and joy in a world that often feels broken, and her presence was a gift to everyone lucky enough to know her.
I was introduced to Patti after marrying into the Duff family. My wife, Morgan, loved her Aunt so much, and it didn’t take long for me to feel the same. Patti’s kindness, generosity, and unshakeable positivity touched everyone she met. Whether you knew her for a day or a lifetime, she made you feel seen, heard, and loved. Patti’s courage in the face of ALS, and her determination to stay strong for her family, continues to inspire us daily.
One thing you should know about Patti is that she was an incredible artist, known for her signature bright color palettes. One of the sweetest gifts she gave us was a painting of my wife Morgan's wedding dress, which now hangs in our home as a constant reminder of her love and talent. Patti, you'll always be with us.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease,” is a progressive disease of the nervous system that affects cells in the brain and spinal cord. Unfortunately, there is no known cure for ALS at this time.
I’ve joined Team ALS to push my physical limits for those who can no longer do so. My goal is to bring hope, raise awareness, and make a real impact—and you can help. By partnering with ALS United Greater New York, every dollar I raise will go directly toward critical research, patient services, and community support.
If you feel called to give, your support will make a meaningful difference. Above all, please keep Patti’s family and everyone affected by ALS in your prayers.
Together, We End ALS!
