My Personal Walk ALS Page
Welcome to my fundraising page for Team Joan’s Gals!
I am participating in ALS United Greater New York’s Walk ALS to raise funds to support those in our local community with ALS and to spread awareness. I am walking in memory of my mom, Joan Alfiero, who lost her battle with ALS in July of 2021.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. There is no cure and no known cause.
Donations raised from this event go to ALS United Greater New York, a non-profit organization that supports research, care services, community education, and public policy - support groups, caregiver support, Multi-Disciplinary ALS Clinic Centers, Equipment Loan Program, Home Assessments, Patient & Family Grant Programs, and Transportation, along with research investments including Safenowitz Fellowship, The Accelerating Medicines Partnership in ALS (AMP-ALS), The Network of Excellence in ALS (NEALS), PREVENT ALS, Target ALS, ALS Network Research Program.
Please feel free to send this page to any friend or family member who might be interested in donating. On behalf of myself and my team, thank you for your donation and support! Together we can make a difference!
