Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. We are participating in ALS United Greater New York’s Walk ALS to raise funds that will support individuals and families affected by ALS.

Our beloved husband, father, and friend, John Olejar was diagnosed with ALS in late May 2024. Less than two years later, on April 1, 2026, he passed away at the age of 68, taken from us far too soon by this devastating disease.

John spent his life putting others before himself. Whether it was through quiet acts of kindness, lending a helping hand, or volunteering in his community, he made the world a better place simply by being in it. His wife, children and grandchildren were his whole world, and he never once hesitated to show up for the people he loved.

At heart, John was a beach boy. Raised in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, he found peace by the water and often said he started his life by the shore and hoped to end it there. It is only fitting that we honor his memory by walking together at the Jersey Shore, there is no better place to Come Together for John.

We walk not only to celebrate the incredible man he was, but to help change the future for families facing ALS. This disease remains critically underfunded, yet cases continue to rise. No family should have to watch someone they love lose their independence progressively and ultimately their life to ALS.

We walk in John’s memory with love, hope, and the belief that together, we can help end ALS forever. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone regardless of age, gender, nationality, or ethnicity, although it is primarily an adult-onset disease. Currently there is no known cause or cure.
