My Personal Walk to Defeat ALS Page
Meet Helen Basso and Brenda Basso McConnell - my Granny and my Mom. These two beautiful souls are why I am passionate about ALS awareness, advocacy, and raising money to help fund research to find treatments and ultimately a cure. ALS is an exceptionally cruel disease. I can tell you all about what it does to the body, but instead I’ll tell you about what it does to a family. It breaks them. My Granny was 51 when she lost her fight. My Mom was 59 when she lost her battle. Way too young to say goodbye to everyone you love. Both women had already given the world so much, but also had so much more to give. They have missed countless family milestones (births, graduations, weddings) and all of the things we take for granted that we will get to share with our loved ones (sharing good news; receiving support when there’s bad news; watching successes; watching failures become successes). My family and our friends are dedicated to doing our part to make sure there is hope that someday no one will have to know the heartache of losing a loved one to ALS.
