YOUR DONATIONS MAKE A LOCAL IMPACT
People living with ALS and their families come first in everything we do, and everything we do supports the search for effective treatments and cures for ALS. ALS United Greater New York is committed to our mission, to support and empower the ALS community through a collaborative approach to fostering bold research initiatives, advancing national and state advocacy, and providing comprehensive care and support to individuals and families affected by ALS.
ALS United Greater New York exists to ensure that anyone facing ALS has someone to turn to for expert advice, essential equipment and support, community, caring conversations, and so much more. Now and always, we remain committed to meeting the needs of individuals and families facing ALS that we serve in the Greater New York Area including New York City, Long Island, Westchester, the Hudson Valley, and Northern and Central New Jersey.
Our support is only possible because of our donors, volunteers, and sponsors. We can't do it without you!

We encourage you to follow the fundraising steps below to get started! As always, our staff is here to help. Please reach out to Meg Emery at memery@als-ny.org or 212-720-3049 if you have any questions about fundraising or how to boost your fundraising efforts.
STEP 1) Personalize your Personal Fundraising Page
Your personal page is the place to tell your story and let everyone know why you are participating in Walk ALS and why finding a cure for ALS is so important to you. Be sure to update your page with a photo too!
Personal Page Checklist:
- Add your story
- Upload a photo
- Set your fundraising goal - don't be afraid to aim high!
STEP 2) Make a Self-Donation
Did you know that someone that donates to themselves is proven to have a larger impact on our fundraising events? Everyone will be able to see how committed you are to the cause. Jump start your fundraising with a self-donation today!
STEP 3) Share Your Fundraiser
Be sure to tell all your friends and colleagues that you have joined Walk ALS. Ask them for their support in helping you do all that you can to challenge ALS this year.
Spread the Word:
- Share the link to your fundraising page on Facebook, Instagram, X, or whichever social media platform you prefer. Be sure to add your story and photos, so people can connect with your fundraiser.
- Send emails through the Participant Center. We created email templates to make this step easy. Select one of the pre-written emails and add a sentence or two about your story and why their donation is important to you. Then click send.
- Add your fundraising page to your email signature, so it is super easy for your friends and family to make a donation.
- Call your friends and family. Take a few minutes to explain why you are participating in Walk ALS and why their support is so important.
- Send a letter. Everyone likes getting something in the mail that isn't a bill! Send a card or letter to your friends and family asking for their support. In the letter, share your story and the impact of the Walk.
STEP 4) Thank Your Donors
Walk ALS is an opportunity to unite and empower the ALS community. Donations to the Walk make a significant difference in the lives of people with ALS in your local region. Your fundraising progress is powerful. Don't forget to share your fundraising successes and thank your donors.

Matching Gifts
Participating in a matching gift program is a great way to maximize the impact of your donation to a charitable organization.
What is a matching gift?
Many companies will match the charitable gift made to a non-profit organization by an employee, often dollar for dollar, thereby doubling the amount of money the organization will receive.
See if your company has a matching gift policy. There are a few easy steps to take:
- Check with your human resources or payroll department to see if your company sponsors a matching gift program.
- Make a gift online or by mail.
- Fill out the donor portion of the matching gift form you can obtain from your company.
- Mail the form to ALS United Greater New York at 42 Broadway Suite 1724, New York, NY 10004
