Walk ALS is only made possible by the passion and dedication of our wonderful volunteers. There are many ways Walk ALS volunteers can help both on Walk Day and leading up to the Walk.

If you are interested in volunteering at a Walk this year, please contact Gloria Almenas at galmenas@als-ny.org or 212-720-3043.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHTS

"We volunteer at the Hudson Valley Walk in honor of Gaby. Her love as an Abuelita and Mother was abundant; and her loss is still felt to this day. We walk in hopes of a cure and to support those other families affected by ALS." - The Yafar Family, Walk ALS Hudson Valley

"My grandpa passed away from ALS almost 10 years ago. After watching him deteriorate and seeing the effects it had on my grandma and my family in general, I knew finding a cure for ALS was something I wanted to get involved with. I want to see a day where no one has to suffer from this horrible disease. Volunteering makes me feel like I am honoring my grandpa and continuing his legacy by helping others in his shoes." - Tori Kaufman, Walk ALS Long Island

"My brother and I began to support and fundraise for ALS United Greater New York in 2020, in memory of our PopPop, Richard Gundy, who passed away in 2019. Both of our bar/bat mitzvah projects focused on us building a team for the walk, as well as soliciting donations to ALS. This past June, not only did we walk in PopPop’s memory, but we assisted in registering other walk participants. We met and heard stories of families just like ours who lost a loved one. We look forward to growing our team, and to help make an impact to end ALS. We know our PopPop would be so proud of what we’re doing." - Caroline and Grant Price, Walk ALS North Jersey

"Ever since my Aunt Donna’s ALS diagnosis in 2010, she has been nothing short of an inspiration to myself and so many others. When she was first diagnosed she said “worrying does not take away tomorrows troubles, it takes away todays peace”. This is just a small illustration of the superhuman strength she has shown in the face of this insidious disease. Fast forward 13 years later- she is still walking, talking and living life to the fullest. Not once has she complained or asked why she’s been burdened with ALS. Her strength in face of this cruel disease is what has motivated me to volunteer and become more involved in the ALS community." - Cassie Belz, Walk ALS Long Island

"I’ve been involved with the ALS Community since 1996 - the year my dad was diagnosed with ALS. He battled the disease for eight years with my mom as his caregiver and all of our family in support of them. I volunteered this fall at the ALS Walk Over the Hudson to honor my parents and their fight. I loved the energy, hope and togetherness the event created for all. Being a part of it brought back that connection- to people’s stories and their determination to keep moving forward and fighting for awareness, expanding support, and pursuing therapies and one day, a cure." - Bryan Lee, Walk ALS Hudson Valley

"My grandma, Anita Milstein passed away from ALS back in 2008. We were devastated by the loss but also motivated to help in some way. My mom founded Anita's Walkers through the walk that year, and we've been walking every year since. This year, after personally missing the last two walks, I felt compelled to help in a more personal way. Volunteering for ALS United Greater New York at the Long Island Walk was my way of paying tribute." - David Ader, Walk ALS Long Island
