Walk ALS North Jersey

Hope for Bo

Dear friends and family,

We are Team Hope for Bo.  Bo is our husband, brother, father, uncle, and friend.  Bo was given the devastating diagnosis of ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.  It is heartbreaking to see how in such a short period of time, the disease has progressed.  It seems not so long ago that Bo was walking down the aisles of Home Depot, mowing the lawn, playing tennis, and was standing on his own doing his silly dances.  Those days are gone.

For anyone who is not familiar with this cruel disease, ALS is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow, and breathe.  The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.

We are all blessed to have Bo in our lives.  ALS has not stolen Bo's beautiful soul, and we truly treasure our times together.  We are thankful to Bo when he pushes through and joins us at family gatherings outside of his home.  We know that is not easy.  We are trying to adjust to the new norm, but the new norm is always changing.

We cannot close our team statement without acknowledging one of our team members, Bo's darling wife, Cybele.  We are sadly aware of the pain Cybele endures each day watching Bo struggle and lose his ability to care for himself on his own.  She also has the incredibly difficult role of being a caretaker for her husband, friend, and partner, all while managing a household and being there in every way for their amazing daughters.

Currently, there is no known cure for ALS.  We are participating in ALS United Greater New York's Walk ALS to raise awareness and raise funds that will support individuals and families affected by ALS.

Please consider supporting our efforts by donating through our fundraising page.  Your donation today will help fund resources and services to the local ALS community, help find new ALS treatments, and move us closer to a world without the disease.

Please feel free to send this page to any friend or family member who might be interested in donating.

With gratitude,

Team Hope for Bo
